All FAA medical certificate classes administered by a designated Aviation Medical Examiner (AME), using the online Form 8500 system.
Medical certificate classes
First Class
Validity
Under 40: 12 months • 40+: 6 months (then lapses to Second Class)
Baseline EKG required at age 35, then annually after 40.
Second Class
Validity
12 months for commercial privileges
Lapses to Third Class for private privileges after expiration.
Third Class
Validity
Under 40: 60 months • 40+: 24 months

Fill out FAA Form 8500 online at medxpress.faa.gov and note your confirmation number.

Book your appointment
Reserve a time that fits your schedule. Bring your confirmation number, photo ID, and reading glasses if you use them.

Visit the office
Most exams take under an hour. We file your paperwork directly with the FAA.
